Rowlinson Warehouse Wireless Network - Case Study
Rowlinson knitwear is the largest and most successful personalised school wear manufacturer in the UK. They produce durable garments to ethical standards and have their own warehouse and embroidery facility in the UK for speedy personalisation.
Rowlinsons have been in business in the UK since 1935. They only source the best fibres and fabrics for their garments which are manufactured to the highest standards. They warehouse them and make them available for 24 hour delivery from plain stock or with their speedy embroidery service.
Being number one for service and customer care is their priority.
Rowlinson were experiencing considerable problems with an aging wireless network which had been operating within the warehouse for picking and stock control using laptops. These problems meant that the business was struggling to complete despatches and works in line with their customer expectations. In addition there were areas of the warehouse that did not have wireless coverage.
PWWN met with Rowlinson and reviewed the current issues and environment, they proposed the approach of a full wireless and RF survey to understand exactly what was happening and then from this made recommendations on improvements. In addition the survey would identify locations of Access points to ensure total coverage of the warehouse.
On completion of the survey it highlighted major interference on the 2.4 GHz channel which would be interfering with the current wireless solution. This interference was caused by the PIR’s from the intruder alarm. PWWN proposed to install a dual band wireless solution to provide coverage across the site and also to move the wireless away from 2.4ghz to 5 ghz and a clean solution.
PWWN installed the Unify "N" wireless solution operating at speeds of up to 450mbps and all high level cat 5e cabling above the warehouse racking back to multiple cabinets across the site. 5Ghz wireless cards were installed in the laptops for the clear "air" and full testing and integration of the SSID and network VLAN’s in to the active directory was completed. Following completion a full user test was performed along with the operations manual to support the users on site and PWWN technicians who are providing 2nd line support.
